COMMUNITY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Below is my extensive community engagement, commitment to education and empowerment, leadership roles, professional background, educational achievements, and ongoing involvement in various committees and advisory roles.

Community Engagement:

  • Boy Scouts of America (BSA) 2011-2017:

- Trained Scout Leader and Advancement Chair for Troop 997 at Big Miller Grove Church.

- Guided 10 out of 16 Scouts to achieve Eagle Scout status, with three achieving Life Scout rank.

  • Parent Council United (PCU) 2013-2019:

- Co-Founder and Co-Chair of a parent volunteer group for DeKalb County parent councils.

- ​Collaborated with parent councils county-wide, organizing events including the annual State of the District Address by the Superintendent.

  • Stonecrest Citizens Coalition (SCC), Inc., 2018 – present:

- Former Secretary and current member.

- Organized events related to political forums, safety, Atlanta Regional Council (ARC), DeKalb County Superintendent updates, and more.

Education and Empowerment:

  • Educational Travel Group Leader - 2012- 2023:

- Sponsored and financially supported students on international trips.

  • South DeKalb Improvement Association Education (SDIAE), Inc., - 2014-present:

- Board Member and CIVICS 101 Specialist.

- Coordinated political forums, homeowners' tax information sessions, educational forums, and parents' rights and responsibilities workshops.

  • South DeKalb Parent Council (SDPC) - 2010-2020:

- Co-Founder and Co-President of a parent volunteer group.

- Conducted monthly educational meetings for parents and students.

  • Special Educational Recognition:

- Selected for the Public Education Leadership Program (PELP) at Harvard University, 2013 by former DeKalb County School District Superintendent Michael Thurmond.

- Sole parent attendee among educators, administrators, and board of education members nationwide.

Professional Background:

  • Worked at AT&T for 26 years, with experience spanning roles in Sales and Marketing, as well as second-level management positions in accounting and finance, including roles such as tax accountant, lead technical financial systems analyst, webmaster, auditor, and financial results reporting.

  • Oversaw a lease asset portfolio valued between $5 billion and $20 billion.

  • BA in Economics from State University of New York at Albany.

  • MS in Information Systems from Pace University, New York.

  • MS in Accounting and Finance Management from Keller School of Management, Georgia.

  • Certificate, Public Education Leadership Project, Harvard University

  • Certificate, Community Building Institute, United Way

Additional Involvement:

  • DeKalb County Department of Planning and Sustainability Community Council Member for District 5.  Appointed by Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson – 2020-current.

  • DeKalb County School District Superintendent Advisory Committee member appointed by Dr. R. Stephen Green and Dr. Cheryl Watson Harris administrations respectively, 2015 - 2022.

  • DeKalb County School District Strategic Plan and Technology Plan committee member (2014 & 2015).

  • Stonecrest SPLOST Advisory Committee, Secretary (2021 - 2023).

  • Led south DeKalb leaders in meeting with former Superintendent, Dr. Green, and cabinet members on September 1, 2015, to discuss expansion of Wadsworth Magnet School from 4th grade to 8th grade.

  • Served as a Scholarship Judge for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., from 2007 to 2014

  • Subdivision Homeowners Association – 2017- 2022:

- Served as a Board Member at Large.

  • Book Club - "Sisters with Voices Book Club" – 1998- 2023:

- Founded and served as President.

- Engaged in monthly readings of various genres.
